Sonia Sotomayor was born in The Bronx, New York City on June 25, 1954.  She has been serving since August 2009 and is the Court’s 111th justice, its first Hispanic justice (Puerto Rican decent), and its third female justice.  In May 2009, President Barack Obama nominated Sotomayor to replace retired Justice David Souter.
